What is a scary story?

Well,

 for my niece's friends,

   it is she talks to me.

There has never been any implied threat,

  but the boys do seem to be wary.

Makes me wonder what she has been telling them.

Something to think about...

Anyway,

  where was I?

Oh, yeah.

What is a scary story?

For me,

 it is not shock value.

   Bloodfest becomes repetitive,

     and makes me wonder about our psyche.

I need a story.

  Some suspense,

    add a few revelations.

Leave a few questions at the end.

The problem is you can find so many scary stories.

All you have to do is look at the world around us.

I feel horror stories have become a distraction. For some, the gaudier, the better, and then there is no reason to look at the world around us.

Unless you go full on Scooby Doo'esque' sea monster kinda scary.

I always remember watching the old movies on Saturday morning. Talking about the originals, Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolfman, and lets throw in Godzilla. Compare those to Silence of the Lambs?

Yeah, well silence of the lambs ... That sh.t can really happen but I doubt Godzilla is going to be bathing in Lake Ontario any time soon.

You just have to know how to babysit them, especially when they get around five or six feet long. Yes, one of my other talents, I am an iguana wrangler.
