I have been adopted

I have been adopted

A Poem by Jon Roggie

How did this happen?
I  keep trying to avoid responsibility.

Guess I have to give a bit of background.

My mom has been raising my niece for the past twelve years.
Keeping the comments about my brother requires some restraint.

Now,
my mother is not getting younger.

I have turned into a caretaker.

My niece is used to me.

She is old enough to realize what could happen.

Previous plans seem to have been tossed out the window.

"Can I stay with Jon?"

Wow. It is possible. My eldest niece lives with me. The middle one will likely live here at some point as well. I can totally relate. It takes a village, especially when your sibling can't cut it.
