Only a gesture

Only a gesture

A Poem by Jon Roggie

On your way past,
  it might seem insignificant.

For some,
  it isn't.

A cold bottle of water on a 110 day?
Might be able to make nightfall.

Hearing the same story repeated?
  Gives a moment of relationship.

Trust me,
it is not only a gesture.

This is so important. I try my best to remember this. And tell that cashier her hair looks nice, or smile at the guy washing my car. Is it really so hard to extend the little kindnesses to others? I have definitely had a little comment from a stranger make my day.

This connects with a deeper part of human emotional behaviour. Sometimes we need to remember to do things because they are important not because they are routine. Nice one Jon

I agree. We never know what a simple act means to another. Thank you.
Just a moment of care can break through any imprisonment. Intriguing write, Jon:)

Mixed a few memories. Each seemed to sink into the feeling.
this reminds me of how people pass by saying "hi, how are you?" expecting the formality of reply...

"fine how are you"
not really wanting to know more, if that person really isn't okay...

in emily's day...so many died of consumption which they could not cure...so when people asked it then, they meant it...might not be here tomorrow.
