Downward turn

Downward turn

A Poem by Jon Roggie

Writing is supposed to be done with emotion,
and this is along that line.

I really hate it when it comes to depression.

Every witty joke falls silently,
swept away with all of the other useless comment.

You can feel it seeping into your bones.

Now.

Is this what you are going to live with?

Did I sound like someone who has given up?

I have went through this before,
and I am sure it will happen again.

Write it out,
and don't dwell on the words.

This should be a release.

Let the dark dreams fly away.

yes, writing should release the negative feelings...and leave us satisfied that we "got it out" and yet, too often the sad writing only leads to more sad writing.

writing into the bottom of the cone, as sylvia did, as berryman did, as sexton and jarrall did...

we attach ourselves to those dark dreams and sleep within them even when we are awake.
