Accidental

Accidental

A Poem by Jon Roggie

I don't know how to approach this,
but my gut feeling is to wait.

Bit of background,
 take that as you will.

Mom has been raising my niece since she was about two.

For various reasons,
I entered the picture when she was about twelve.

Mom stumbles across an essay she wrote for class.

The kid had a rough year.

Her grandfather,
who did more than my brother,
    died.

She is trying to adjust to all of this.

Also,
  apparently she came out.

She just can't tell us.

Part of the religion thing.

So,
when do I just break down,
    and say,
       I read your words.

Your grandmother does not care.

I don't care.

You are still you.
