Trust me,

  I am not being bitter.

Tonight,

  I will hide behind the shield of honesty.

Maintaining a friendship for a few decades may take a toll.

Now, 

  I again hide behind honesty.

It can leave some marks.

There were always the feelings.

Nothing was said or done,

  but they were there.
