Once I turn away

Once I turn away

A Poem by Jon Roggie

Listening to a song,
  heard it over the years,
but I was never paying attention.

"Tears of a clown."
   Smokey Robinson

I know,
most of you were not around yet,
so you can do a quick search,
      and listen.

I can remember different times,
   while the song was playing.

Notes playing on an AM radio station,
late night on the Midnight Special,
    an old 8 track...

The song made me sad,
  but I did not understand.

Somehow,
  I was reminded,
   and the words sang clear,

    tears of a clown

when i first heard that song, it was on an album "Make it Happen" by smokey and the miracles and i heard that song and thought, damn...that should be a single, it would be a number one hit...it was about 8 months later when it was released as a single and lo and behold...the rest was a.m. radio history..

great song...and the poem is nostalgia for me...
