Why the tortoise?

Why the tortoise?

A Poem by Jon Roggie

When I migrated into the Garden,
my friends debated which creature I should be.

Both fragile,
  at least in form,
    I chose a tortoise.

I might have chosen the sidewinder.

Both moved into my childhood garden.

I preferred the rock that moves,
  versus the stick that kills.
