Why the tortoise?

A Poem by Jon Roggie

When I migrated into the Garden,
  my friends debated which creature I should be.

Both fragile,
  at least in form,
    I chose a tortoise.

I might have chosen the sidewinder.

Both moved into my childhood garden.



I preferred the rock that moves,
  versus the stick that kills.
