Mind last to go

Mind last to go

A Poem by Jon Roggie

I think of my aunt,
  recently passed.

She was the oldest of the previous generation.
   My the father,
      the youngest,
          now the last.

When the time finally arrived,
  she still had her mind.

She could not see,
and it had been years since she could walk.

She could remember how many years it had been...

I can only hope the same,
       because of all the memories....

my dad is 95---and is starting to loop....but in some ways his world is safer that way...the pain of loss not so powerful a foe as it once was.
