Why join the shadows?

Why join the shadows?

A Poem by Jon Roggie

Not that I ignore my surroundings,
  and trust me,
I do try to pay attention.

I just try to stay in the light.

Enough darkness around me,
and even when the sun shines,
     enough to make me choose.

I will dance with the shadows,
and tease them with the light.

I envy the ability to convey an abstract thought simply but provokingly. I do not review on grammar and poetic structure because this is not English class. However, I love this imagery of teetering between two extremes, but being in CONTROL of it. Or rather, seeking control. Control is important.
I do not know if it was intended, but the poem is very playful and on a certain level, uplifting. You keep trying.
The last bar, "I will dance with the shadows/and tease them with the light" is beautiful.
