The old rules

The old rules

A Poem by Jon Roggie

You take someone in,
   and you are responsible.

They might as well be your children.

I am not talking about someone,
   simply needing a momentary bed.

One who is lost,
and you can ignore the plea,
      or take them in.

Once you do,
  never look away.

These are the old rules.

Everyone has those friends that they regret making, but we can't turn from them because even though they may be irritating and needy, we love them and we know they need our help. We may not want to help people because it's inconvenient and time consuming, but deep down we know we have to take care of others.

once you commit, there is no turning back.

once we decide to help someone, our conscience will not let us retreat.
