When you know you are part of the family

When you know you are part of the family

A Poem by Jon Roggie

Most think of family
  as those related by blood.

Such a limited view.

You have those friends.
  Admit it!

Their children call you Aunt, or Uncle.

(Fun for me, I get to be Uncle Jon, I just need a cabin!)

Brings me to a friend of mine,
and I do consider him a brother,
    his name is Tom.

This leads to the story.

He is Uncle Tom,
and some may consider this outrageous,
    and possibly racist.

Trust me,
  I have seen the looks,
   and it quickly changes.

I can't tell all of the memories,
because those are part of our family,
composed of Mr. Goodboy, Brotherman, Midget, and myself.

I never got a nickname.

I was just Jon.
