The story of the cricket

The story of the cricket

A Poem by Jon Roggie

Let me repeat a fable,
and maybe make the story modern day.

To make it simple,
  a man asked for immortality,
but neglected to ask for eternal youth.

Yes,
  he lived forever,
    but his bones aged,
     tendons contracted,
       skin dried.

Left a withered image of what he once was.

How is that a modern day story?

How many wish for something,
 neglecting the consequences,
not even so simple as immortality?

Granted your wish,
  but your soul withers,
    adding too many years,
      turning into another cricket.

Very cleverly done this, you have a way of telling a highly complex story in a compact space.

Oh I love this fable, we want to live for today, not think about the consequences, it's all instant gratification, not looking at the future. It's an age old story, that will live on forever I suppose....
