This is an exact description of "divine inspiration" thought -- this is the way I have always written, pretty much flat out, without edits. If you write this way you kind of don't know where it came from, it's just there. There is a wonderful interview with Elizabeth Gilbert (Eat Pray Love) tries to describe this process as fairies -- she was roundly criticized, but personally, although whacky, I thought she was pretty close.

That is when I know the piece is finished. Glad you liked it!
Not so crazy at all, I think we do this often as poets...come back to those words the muse has so graciously gifted us with and say to ourselves, 'did I write that?'....Why is a whole other poem....well said Jon.
