Eyes over a cup

Eyes over a cup

A Poem by Jon Roggie

Steam helps.

I can hide behind,
  giving a chance to respond.

Only for a bit.

You wait for a response.

Because I'm honest.

Hesitation already gives the message.

My eyes show the truth.

Do I have to say it?

there you go, strategically choosing words, and in eight lines we have a whole scene, you are so talented at this, a room, a table, a couple, a question , a hedging, a moment to answer honestly but without wanting to really be honest, the answer in the eyes, in the hesitation, damn you're really good at this!!!

god, this is good...so much in this short piece about how the eyes give us away regardless of the words...

and "hesitation" is definitely a strong sign...if we have to think of a response...it probably will not be the truth.
