What is a tortoise to do?

What is a tortoise to do?

A Poem by Jon Roggie

We didn't ask for your protection,
  but,
    hey,
      thanks for the thought.

Now,
  we can only watch.

The cattle are still here,
and now the humans are being silly.

One calls foul,
  complaining about rules being enforced.
Screaming for rights from a government,
    one he refuses to acknowledge.

More come to offer support,
merely because they somehow feel betrayed.

Other side,
has the law on their side.
Tired of dealing with the situation after 20 years.

Scent of violence is in the air.

Land supposed to be quiet and peaceful,
   tainted by hate and anger.

Watch for a while,
  quietly thinking.

Wondering if it is time.
Time to slowly walk away.
Walk back into the desert.
Away from the madness of humans.
