A Poem by Jon Roggie

I can only feel the moment,
because I am stunned by the past.

After the panic on the beach,
   the trip to the hospital.

Seeing your blue toes.

Family,
asking me to watch over the son.

I am 14.

I watched you die my friend.

I am still not the same.

Thirty plus years later.

I am still not the same.

:: i have seen some really precious people die... before my eyes... but the pain does not sting me... what truly stings me is the pain of the one who is most precious to me... i'm grateful to the universe for his life and pained by his struggle for existence... i think the suffering of those who are alive, especially the poor in my country, affects me more... winter is here and they don't even have the means to cope with it... it's really sad...
