We Danced

We Danced

A Poem by Jon Roggie

It's been a very long time.

I lay in my bed,
  sounds of the machines.
Keep me alive,
  but don't let me sleep.

Cool hand on my forehead.

"It's time my friend."

Beauty you can't see in life.

She takes my hand.

Walking away from the empty shell,
  I pause.

She takes my hand,
  and as a gift,
  we dance.

Very moving.

This one caught me unaware. Out of the blue, but as I wrote it, it took over. This really brought up some old pain.
