Kindred Soul

Kindred Soul

A Story by Jon Roggie

Today, I looked into a mirror.

Not of the image,
  but of the soul.

Having a glib turn of phrase ready to go,
  I was stunned.

A story of sorrow,
 one of pain.
Simple statement of missing a friend.

While I sat,
  waiting for my turn,
I was awed by the courage.

It is one thing to write,
another to stand up and speak from your heart.

When my turn came,
  trembling,
  insecure,
My words had the desired affect.

Still, my heart was aching.

I could feel the pain.
I could only wish I had chosen different words.
Just to let him know,
my friend, you are not alone.

Its hard to know when you end up back this far in a writers profile whether to comment (I looked up stories if you are wondering).
There is a story like progression here. Tugs at the heart a bit until the end when it hits you full force. Well written. And if it's true, I am sorry.
