Cheshire's Grin

A Poem by Diana Wolf (Jacqueline Stone)

The teeth materialize in darkness first

Then come the eyes

closed of course,

when are they ever fully open?

They are always relaxed

Even in the face of danger

What is wrong with him?

Can’t he take anything seriously?

How has he lived more than five seconds?

Yet he says he has existed forever,

Or at least much too long to keep track

He seems to show up at my lowest moments

Hanging around, asking questions

Which Never Make Sense

How do they connect?

Hell if I know.

Then he’ll leave as quickly as he came

Leaving me alone again

Where are you going?

Could we chat longer?

Please?

Trying to find him

I find another path

Another way to move forward

A new strength

A shield

A new blade

A new glade

A new river

A new shore

Where I see him waiting

Always Asking,

“What took you so long?”
