The Legend of the Sun People

The Legend of the Sun People

A Story by Diana Wolf (Jacqueline Stone)

In the beginning, there was a race of waking suns. These people understood the true essence of fire. How it is the burning passion keeping them going. How it is the light illuminating their world. How it cannot exist without something to burn. They lived together with an understanding of how dangerous it can be as well as how much life this fire can clear the way for. Those who could not stand the heat fell. It was a fact of life. Little flames could be fed and protected until they could blaze with the brightest of them. The warriors cleared the way and the elders kept the hearths blazing. The dancers move the wind to feed the flames. Priestesses ensured the meaning is never lost.  The leaders changed with the seasons of life.

Overtime individuals broke off before their weak or raging fires were transformed in the rituals. These people did not want to change they wanted to stay just the way they were. Either a raging inferno or a starving husk both unhealthy and dangerous to the world around them. Sometimes husks would come back and burn away into a beautiful flame, or a rager went back to tame their fire to interact without burning themselves and others. Each time was treated as a death in both societies the difference was for the sun people it was a celebration because death and rebirth were a part of live. The fractured societies saw this as “cruelity” and were enraged by the sun people’s unyielding nonchalance. They began to fear and demonize them as hellfire incarnate. Animals with no higher function, uncultertured, uncivilized, lazy base beings. Stealing their food so they would burn out, forcing them to steal from each other.

Sick of the pain being cause around them some sun people stopped openly sharing their fire and hid it deep inside, where no one could use it against them. They let their bodies turn to husks with a starving flicker inside. Keeping the sacred knowledge buried to preserve it for future generations.

Now generations of shadow tenders are bringing their light back into the world. Rerevealing the brilliance of their ancestors, burning so brightly they help new flames spark. Nurturing the world into a new beginning .Their magic a home to heat and colors. Just like fire, they dance and leap and flow through the world giving form to the spirit of the world once more.
