The Revenge

The Revenge

A Chapter by Jason Again
"

The ritual to save Sarah's soul.

"

The ritual was to be powerful. Without full dedication, it would never work. Sean had been spending the past few hours telling the others all he knew about his occult religion. Explaining it is not worship of any evil spirits, there were no summonings of Satan, nothing of that sort. Complete peace and unity with Mother Nature. Matt had known quite a bit on this already, and was in from the beginning. He was truly dedicated to helping his new friend out. Daniel was having a bit of trouble putting a few things together, but was ready to help. Amy was the tough one. She was not interested in any of this at all and planned to leave the woods before this was started.

"I wish you were able to help, Amy."

"I'm sorry, Sean. I barely know you, and I can't turn my back on God."

"It's understandable. You better take off, we're getting this started soon."

And with that, she left to go back home.

"Okay guys," he turned back to Matt and Daniel, "let's go."

They started towards the tree in high hopes that Sarah could be saved. She'd done nothing wrong, and did not deserve what had happened to her at such a poor young age. The walk to the ritual site was seeming to be endless. Daniel had grown tired from the day's adventure and was starting to lose energy. A little help from his cousin was keeping him on his feet. The clearing in which the tree stood was very dark, and quite cold.

"From East to West, from North to South, I call upon you to enter!" Sean had begun the ritual. Come into this place of nature's growth, and see to it we are protected."

Each of the boys found their place around the tree and raised their hands up high. All at once they shouted, "Sarah! We are here. We've come to see you happy. No more tears, no more fear. Join your parents and be merry."

A whisper came from the tree, "I can not feel my body. I feel so alone."

"I am Sean Thompson, descendent of your grandmother, Jemma. I have come to tell you that all will be well if you can find it in you to move on from this place. Nothing is left but misery and woe. Summerland is just ahead. Do not dwell on your mother and father, for you will see them when you get there."

"Do not speak of them thinking you know anything!"

A branch fell away from the tree, nearly crushing Sean. Sarah's spirit was not able to see that they were trying to help. Instead, she would see them join her.

"We only want to help!" Matt cried out. "Why can't you understand that we're friends?"

Sarah's voice became louder, "I have no friends. The friends I had murdered my mother, and then my father, too. They should have taken me in addition, but saw it fit to torture me with a life of being alone."

A ghostly figure appeared by the tree. She lashed towards Matt. Narrowly missing taking him down she turned and struck again. This time it was direct. Matt was on the ground and he wasn't moving. Daniel, being worried for his cousin ran to his side.

"Matt, open your eyes. Are you with me, dude? Come on."

"Hey, Daniel," Sean sounded worried, "did you happen to see where Sarah went?"

He looked all around the clearing. No sign of Sarah. The darkness had begun to lift. Sean looked over to Daniel just soon enough to see Matt rise up behind him, preparing to strike.

"What are you doing, Matt?!?" he quickly cried out.

"You will be next!" Matt's voice was gone, in its stead was Sarah's.

Sarah had stolen Matt's body. In exchange for her spirit's freedom, Matt had lost his life. Sean felt this had gone on long enough."

He cried out, "Sarah! Come over here, you b***h."

She turned and lunged towards Sean with her hands aimed at his throat. Hidden in the sleeve of his jacket had been a switchblade, now driven deeply into the heart of what was once Matt. Sarah began twitching inside the innocent boy's body. The end was drawing close. Sean stepped behind her.

"We came to save you, Sarah. Instead you tried getting even. Now you are on the forest floor gasping for breath. How does it feel to know that you could have gone happily to Summerland to be with your family? I hope you are satisfied with what you have done. Your soul will never be free. Goodbye Sarah."

Sean helped Daniel to his feet, and the two slowly made their exit back to town. Matt's body was left motionless on the ground. Sarah, daughter of the infamous witch, had gotten her revenge.
