The woods were very dark and the temperature was dropping very quickly. Daniel and Amy barely made a sound, and Sean seemed dead set on his objective. But exactly what was he looking for?
The story behind the tree had slipped far from Daniel's mind, but was all Amy could think about. Sean came to a stop. Something just wasn't right. Though the cousins barely knew him, they could tell something was on his mind.
"Do you guys feel that?" he asked.
"I'm just cold," replied Daniel.
"No...it's.....hard to explain."
"Well, I think we should keep going. Matt's out there alone and it looks like it's getting dark."
"Yeah, that means we're almost there."
Though he had no clue what that meant, Daniel didn't question Sean. It had done him no good thus far, so he'd decided it was just better to stay quiet. Amy clutched Daniel's arm as they pressed on. She was scared. So many things were going through her head all at once. Was Sean just trying to scare them? Was Matt in on the prank? Was Sean scared himself? Was any of this even real, or just a weird dream?
Soon they saw a light. It was still a ways up the path, so it seemed small. The light came closer and closer until a very earie tree stood before them, in the center of a clearing. This tree, however, was no every day tree. Vines and moss were everywhere, and the bark was very coarse. These are qualities of a lot of trees, yes, but this one's vibe was just different.
They agreed that this place didn't seem very safe, and set into a new direction to look for Matt. He couldn't have gotten very far. After all, they'd gone out right behind him. The darkness was falling away as they made their way back towards the house. No signs of Matt were to be found, and Amy was very worried. Her brother was always one to be secluded and to himself, but he'd never done anything like this.
