The SearchA Chapter by Jason AgainThe opening of the adventure. The kids are on their way in search of the House.
"Hurry, Amy!" "Well, if you wouldn't walk so freaking fast it wouldn't be a problem." "Why didn't you just stay home like we told you?" "You know what, Daniel? Shut up!" "Whatever. Pick up the pace."
This was the usual. These two never really had a boring moment. They were always going at each other's throats for something. Amy was the youngest in the trio, her brother Matt was the oldest, and their cousin Daniel was only three days younger. Since he was older, Daniel felt superior to Amy. She called on Matt to help her, but he never payed it much attention.
The arguing didn't stop for quite some time and they simply pressed on nagging the whole way. Matt had been forced to listen to this since Amy learned to talk, so he was used to it by now. It still bothered him time to time, but he always found an escape. Just when he was beginning to get cross, the escape came, and he belted out, "Shut up!" Silence. "We're here."
Ahead of the group stood a ragged, out-dated, eyesore of a shack...in nicer words. Amy was not one to be impressed easily, and quickly sneered, "What is this trash pile? This is the ever-so-great house of the witch?" "Yeah, this is it," replied a voice from inside, "and if you ask me, it's absolutely astonishing." "Who's there!?" barked Daniel. "Why, don't you sound like the hero of the day?" replied the voice. "How about you just tell me who you are?" "Come find out, Hero." They stood in silence until a figure appeared in the doorway. "Name's Sean. Sean Thompson. How can I help you?" "I'm Daniel. These are my cousins Matt and Amy." "The pleasure is all mine, I'm sure." "Right, so who are you?" "Didn't we just go over that?" "I'm talking about why you're here. So?" "So what? You didn't ask why I'm here, you asked who I am. Ask the right questions from now on." The team couldn't help but to see something extraordinary in the young man as he disappeared back into the hut. WIth a bit of a push from Amy, Matt made his way in first, followed by Daniel, then she came closely behind.
All of the tables and shelves inside were coated in layers of dust. The corners were filled with cobwebs, and the floor was almost rotted away. It was very hard to tell which step would be good, and which would drop you through. Matt, being the one who kept to himself a little more than most, made his way off to other rooms exploring his environment. Daniel was in search of Sean, and Amy was right on his heels, of course.
Bored with the silence, Amy started up a chat, "So, a witch lived here?" "That's the story." "No, like, a real witch?" "Yeah, and she was murdered." Sean chimed in, "Please tell me you brats don't actually believe in that old ghost story!" "Alright, dude," Daniel snapped back, "Stop with all of the disappear and reappear acts, okay?" "You know, Danny, you suck at being a hero." "And stop calling me Hero. It's old, already." "Whatever you want, but lighten up. All that tension will give you a heart attack. Now get your butts on the move and follow me. That ever-so-brainy cousin of yours just went out the back door and is going deeper into the woods." "So he went exploring, so what?" "So, the tree is not too far away from here." "Tree?" "I'll explain on the way, let's go." © 2008 Jason AgainReviews
