A Dream Diverted

A Dream Diverted

A Poem by Jeff McHugh

It was a Tuesday morning, bright and early.
The first step of a young man's dream.
Eyes ahead, big smile; he was prepared, surely.
Nothing could stop him or so it seemed.
The other actors present their being
He should have felt engaged
A divine herald strikes, its presence freeing
His true passion now uncaged.
She was rarer than the whitest pearl
An angel without wings
Her eyes address him, her hair unfurls
His pride, his joy, his heart and soul, they sing
An essence eternal, the hope of all
Beauty undescribable, through the words and thoughts of men
Enough to make the pillars of heaven fall
A prophet of love God sends
His dream, it changed
Through himself quickly crushed
His destiny is that of the devil, enflamed.
He burned everything he touched.
