Drink Consumes all

Drink Consumes all

A Poem by Justin Carr

A Man Went In
A Boy Came Out

Mentally Altered
Changed Beyond A Doubt

His Face Once Strong
Now Hides With A Shout

For The Drink Consumes All
And Few It Spits Back Out

Memories Shattered
Friends Begone

Harshened Melodies
Ever Lasting Dawns

In Dangers Face
The Boy Quickly Pales

In The Dim Little Room
Where He Downs His Ale

All I've got to say is those couplets and the topic make a pretty decent poem. Those first two lines definitely capture the eyes of a reader, they're so simple, yet with the rest of the poem taken into consideration, they're perfect.

Wow. The couplets give this poem such a great rhythm. Strong message and good word choice. It's so descriptive even though it's quite short. The ending...it sums it all up, and it almost leaves you wishing you could have helped.
