VacancyA Chapter by Justin CarrStarway Enterprises had boots on the ground. The politician was sincere but
distant. He was probably hired by Reever for the purpose of sending the all
important “I'm watching you”, but the man knew to keep his distance. A brief
conversation with him outlined the safest parts of the area and places to stay.
“Egomaniac” Ellen chipped in “ But either way, we have to play this his
way.” Will grabbed his bag “You have your com?” he asked. She fumbled around in her bag for a moment then drew it out, displaying it like a prize with one hand holding it and the other laying upwards beneath it. “I've got it. And we need to go. Just call me if you need- or message
me.” “Be safe”. Will was alone again, but not really. An hour later and Will was taking back everything he had ever said about
Loron being a bad place. It was worse than a bad place. Amateur
musicians trying to “make it” were on every corner. Gang violence was prevalent
and homeless children were everywhere. He couldn't imagine what they might have
been through. A voice inside told him that he didn't care right now. He had to
find a room. One where he wouldn't get jumped in the middle of the night. Or the
day. It was dark either way. Ellen had allotted both Hook and Will a card with a
few hundred credits, enough to buy a decent room. Problem was, there were no
decent rooms. Eventually Will broke down and bought a cheap room from the person
that looked least likely to kill him in his sleep. He was a Brii Alien who spoke
no language except that of credits. The room's contract was in a language Will
didn't understand, but he signed it anyway. How were the others doing? If it was a perfect world, Hook would've
been killed in a gang accident and Ellen would be holed up safe and sound in a
nice hotel. Nice hotel, as if. He considered messaging her and asking, but
decided that would probably earn him a scolding. An hour passed. The president
of Fulius was talking about his plans for his planet and the others in his
system on the INC. Politicians of Loron need to take notes from this guy. The
Dirty Corner leered at him from across the room. He grabbed his com and after
planning his exact words for fifteen minutes, he finally messaged Ellen. © 2012 Justin Carr |
