Little Caterpillar.A Poem by J SchwenkOften we all feel guilty for things we have done. Here is mine.
I remember when I was little
I walked up to the porch that leads to the front door It was chilly outside There Near the doorstep Was a small, dark caterpillar curled up The fur looked soft as velvet I didn't know what I thought during that moment I walked ahead My mother asked me why I did that My father told me the caterpillar was cuddling, trying to get warm and looking for a comfortable place to stay He smiled a sad smile and pulled his arms towards his chest, to gesture a cuddling motion I felt guilty Years later The guilt still resonates with me I wondered why I did that in the first place A small soul was taken away I even played with caterpillars when I was little, for fun Now, when I go running outside I step aside To avoid stepping on a spider or other little creatures I'm sorry for what I did to you, little caterpillar.
