Stevens God must have smiled when He made the flowers Red and yellow, blue pink and white Violet purple lavender green He bestowed on His earth their myriad colors And with the sweet fragrances of heaven He perfumed the whole world He gave to we sinners these simple reminders Those who deny Me look only to these For who but Me could create an orchid? Who but Me could make a rose smell so sweet? To those who still doubt go pick a sweet daisy And see My heart opened to thee A gift to the people from His hyacinth mansion A bounty to all the larkspur and stock He gave them to us freely with no reservations Anthurium’s scarlet and daffodil’s beauty And though we scarcely deserve His floral embrace Yet still He blessed us with these Yes God must have smiled when He made the flowers He must have been singing a jasmine refrain He reached into His heart and pulled out a lotus He breathed on the lilac to make it smell sweet With a sunflower kiss He gave rise to true beauty That all who may see them believe (24 lines) © Copyright 2012 J.A.
