Long Distance

Long Distance

A Poem by Jennifer Roberts
"

Sonnet with emoticons!

"

In my opinion it's better to talk face-to-face
about certain things, like a friend's new liaison.
When she's telling me about how he came to her place,
I'd prefer the conversation with laughter, not emoticons.
Analog text on a screen doesn't project sincerity
    so tiail, idk. call me l8r k? OMG! :( i miss u*
nuances are missed over the phone bringing uncertainty.
"What do you think? Think you'd like him? I do ..."
I think that she's biting her lip, smiling wide,
I'll know for certain when I go home this weekend.
Every second of construction is worth the drive
when I knock on her door and I hear: "JEN!"
"You wouldn't believe the traffic on 23."
What a feeling to catch up over cold coffee.

*So, think I am in love, I don't know. Call me later, okay? Oh my god! (sad face) I miss you.
