The Beast

The Beast

A Poem by JR

Chris said, the beast comes at night

and that struck me as poetic, as phrases

sometimes do and it’s bounced around

in my brain for weeks now, yes, yes

the beast comes as night and he takes

the old and the sick he steals the skin

from the living he turns lungs to water

he has long fingers and a longer life

he comes at night, he is the night

and he has come for so many and

though I often feel I am ready he

still has not come for me,

I have made my body a feast.

Well, it's not hard to guess the identity of the beast. He's one hungry sucker. Don't tempt him.
