He Will Have Her

He Will Have Her

A Poem by JR

The hinges opened with a sigh

his heel strikes on the threshold

were like falling snow

she didn’t hear him coming

the floorboards creaked

like an old man complaining

about his raw bones but

she didn’t hear him coming

his shadow caressed the wallpaper

his breath hung like fog

in the hallway but

she didn’t hear him coming

the bedroom was dark and silent

he moved in like a skinwalker

approaching her, his slender fingers…

she didn’t hear him coming

but now he has arrived

and he will have her as his own.
