Dissolving Nut LoadA Poem by JRI watched a turkey vulture today working on an unlucky squirrel on the road that bisects the ravine, turkey vultures are ugly animals they hunch within their shoulders but squirrels are light and gray tapping like my fingers on these keys until the tire takes them down; The turkey vulture is precise in his machinations, he knows his meal he goes straight through the soft fur to the heart and gulps, hunched within his shoulders, swallows, turning his ugly red face to the sky in thanks, before dipping again into the guts, leaving the bowels with their heavy dissolving nut load to rot on asphalt beneath a twisting sun; So I guess there’s no point in writing poems about love anymore. © 2020 JR |
