In My Dreams

In My Dreams

A Poem by JR

Even in my dreams we now socially distance

even in my dreams we fear the virus,

we edge each other out in the grocery lines

give side-eye and sharp elbows

even in my dreams I call out and no one answers

even in my dreams everything seems dark

it is always night, the lights gain their corona

even in my dreams I play guitar for no one

even in my dreams I start coughing

even in my dreams I am always

afraid of death and his long, long cloak

even in my dreams I have given up on poetry

even in my dreams all my love has broken

even in my dreams I am alone

even in my dreams the virus that yellow

b***h has taken everything

even in my dreams I cut my beard shave my head

and prepare to rise back up into

this life of gray nothing.
