Adrenal

Adrenal

A Poem by JR

I watched a cat once play with a mouse

and it got me thinking about

those paws that seem so soft conceal

daggers, those claws

bring terror to the head of that

little mouse looking for an escape

but those muscles so sleek when

they purr now flex as they pounce

those teeth gnaw and crack the bone

to get at the brain, the adrenal glands

which they eat first to get high

then go right for the heart;

And I’ve been that mouse from the start

so from the cat’s perspective

I wonder what that’s like?
