Cherry Blossoms

Cherry Blossoms

A Poem by JR

How did you get to be here

cherry blossoms sparkling white and pink

on those thin finger branches

delicate reach for the morning sun;

But I’m standing in this wasteland

of the grocery store parking lot

just trying to return my used cart

but I am held up, I held up for the blossoms

dancing in the light

surrounding me with scent

amid this wasteland of asphalt and concrete

bricks and glass and steel and rubber

they are so singular, these flowers, the way they

silhouette against the azure

fragile, just waiting for the wind to toss them

it’s just them, and me, sharing this moment;

So you, big black dog,

caged and abandoned in your owner’s SUV

yelling your accusations at me

you can kindly go f**k yourself

while I take my moment with these buds

and remind myself that despite

glass and steel, concrete and asphalt

and all the things built by man

nature runs underneath it all
