Fire and Snow

Fire and Snow

A Poem by JR

Jesus it’s everywhere inside him
that final fire that has been lit
eating his organs in a blaze
licking at his marrow, his veins
his heart the ultimate torch
to that hungry feeding burn;
and she calls me crying
and confused and wishing
for something to happen,
anything, she intones
as a miracle
holy water to put out the flame;
It’s not going to happen, child
miracles don’t happen for
people like us, or like him
no
the truth is we’re all on fire,
until we’re snow
