Salt City Blues

Salt City Blues

A Poem by JR

The city, like my old lover

once she held me close

along the curve of her streets

so much like hips

I could run my tires against.

Now I have stars above me

but once they were streetlights

lit like a cigarette

the ageless LED sparkle

of her and her hand.

Now I have trees around me

but once they were traffic lights

the silence replace by sirens

the empty spaces were

once the breath

of her, and her hand.

Now I have empty roads

but once they were her bars

where I growled my growl

and I fast strummed my chords

and I was jerked off, in my youth

by her, and her hand.

I never thought I would miss her

the salt city and her sounds

the mountains that lean

like and old man, like me

seeking the warmth

of her, and her hand.

I never thought I would miss her

now I have clear skies above me

but once that was her smog

the choke of her humanity

the cars that ran their tires

across the smooth round

of her asphalt hips.

I miss the taste of her salt

that city beside the sea

I miss her,

and her hand

where she touched me.
