Bits And Bitterness

Bits And Bitterness

A Poem by JR

With a clang and a clash, the cupboards fell open

and all the dishes fell from their racks

windows rattle in their frame like chains

dining room table split in two with a meaty crack

legs all tumbled from the chairs

the dogs howl and rock and shake

beds burst into flames and the children all cry out

floorboards themselves creak and whistle

sofa has sprung out its stuffing

television crackles and spits out static

closets vomit up their clothing

the pins rattle in the hinges, the pins rattle

and lift the hinges, the pins let loose

and open the door falls, so the wind

can get in, sweep it all away,

the bits and bitterness

until the house is clean and empty once more
