Inertia

Inertia

A Poem by JR

Adrenaline slick

there’s something

about coming

off a corner,

riding it deep

into the white and then

the straightaway

where I can punch it

make that four banger

growl like an angry

m**********r;

my heart switches up

into a higher gear

and sweat flicks

onto the dash

the clang and crash

as the clutter slides

along my floorboards

and under my seat

I drive hard and

hum with the rubber,

constructing a companion

out of my speed

cutting corners,

watching the power lines

aggressive urge

a long embrace

of inertia

throw back my throat and

cry out with the wind;

this dark car

leaves me restless

wanting more

like love once did.
