Careful

Careful

A Poem by JR

“You don’t care about

nothing,” you said

still looking for your underwear

I see it, I see it there

on the floor, at the edge

of the bed

but I’m not going to tell you

make you look awhile

it’s funnier that way

“you don’t care about

nothing or nobody,”

you said when you found

your drawers finally

you’re gonna step into them

slide them easy under your skirt

and then you’ll be gone

the truth is you’re wrong

younger, I held my heart

open like and egg

and offered it to anyone

but they kept running off

with it so I had to hold it closer

stop giving it away

I do care, lady, or at least I can,

I just don’t care about you

The depth in this is amazing. Emotional trauma from past relationships can make a person look closed off even when they're just trying to protect themselves. Thanks for sharing

Thanks so much! I appreciate it.
A tight and uniformed piece, that guides the reader, a story of those that expect everything and give little to nothing, well done, good read.
