Isadora

Isadora

A Poem by JR

You were once wild here, don't let them tame you - I.D.

Isadora, you wore your scarves longer every year

you danced beautifully, you took many lovers

you threw your fame around yourself like a coat

and descended into the maw of the masses

you collected many expensive things

and displayed them on a glass shelf

just for the hell of it

you wore your scarves longer every year and

you smiled at everyone

you preferred your whiskey top shelf

but you didn’t drink it well

still, you took so very many lovers

and you always turned your good side

to the camera, even when dancing

on the table

Isadora, when fame began to slip off your shoulders

when your looks started to slide into age

when your accounts ran dry

when your lovers left you

you smiled into their teeth

and waved your dime store rings

as you got into that car, the last time

you wore your scarf even longer that year

and it finally choked you out

Bravo! I really like this tribute to Duncan. The scarves, excellent, excellent. I dig your writing a lot!

Thanks Jennifer. Her story always stuck out to me... I've been wanting to write about her for years.
