Nearing JordanA Poem by JRI remember the first
time she lied to me or at least the first
time I knew for sure the set of her jaw, so
much like my own snow fell just outside
the car we drove through it
cold despite the heater she watched the flakes
through the side window her eyes dark, so much
like my own her headphones broke
the thump of our silence she said she was a
dancer she said she was a
dancer but she wasn’t dancing
now I knew better because I’d been pretending to be something I wasn’t
for years so I guess she and I
were just driving through that autumn
snow
telling lies to each
