A Poem by JR

Three poems per day, minimum

three cups of coffee, ok, maybe more like four

four-thirty in the morning stroke beard

thirty-five pounds, eighty reps, once per day

one hundred and sixty three pounds, several times per day

two women and forty-three years

eighteen hundred calories but but

two hundred and eighty per beer,

one hundred and twenty per wine

ninety per shot

two point one two miles, five times per week

nine and one half minutes per mile

four hundred twenty-eight feet of elevation gain

twenty rounds, now regrettably reduced by one

twelve ninety-nine, and five for a tip

another five in the hat

eleven in the evening three texts sent

two dogs, now regrettably reduced by one

twenty-three percent on the propane tank

sixty-eight degrees in the house

ninety-seven percent on my phone’s battery

one girl, now regrettably reduced by one

one boy who adds to the total

sixty-three cents into the change jar with a clink

one of me sitting in a hard chair typing to the window

when the final tally is done with that bone chalk

all of this reduces to zero
