Wager

Wager

A Poem by JR

I’ll bet her blond hair looked just like yours

I’ll bet she had a hitch in her laugh

I’ll bet she carved worry lines,

twin paths through the center of her forehead

I’ll bet there were quirks to her speech

I’ll bet she was gentle, very gentle

I’ll bet she was beautiful,

just like you

I’ll bet she had a nasty slow burn temper

I’ll bet she struggled with her weight

I’ll bet she was good with kids,

just not her own

I’ll bet she could really put the drinks down,

oh yes oh yes oh yes

I’ll bet she was a little skewed in her vision

I’ll bet she laughed easily

I’ll bet she loved and was loved,

just not by her own

two years gone,

I’ll bet every night she relived her loss

just like you

This one is a not what I thought it was going to be —and I love that. It depends on how one views ‘loss’. Reading this is easy to follow and sort of fast past due to the repetitive “I’ll bet she”. Wonderful write. Kudos JR!!
