Incubus

Incubus

A Poem by JR

He wants her to absorb him, completely

like cotton takes blood into itself

he makes sure he’s there at the edge of her mirror

the buzz as she adjusts the corners of her makeup

he’s disquiet that pricks with subtle claws

as she laughs, clinks her glass, looks over her shoulder

to the corner of the room, where sleep and dreams linger

he leaves just the slightest streaks

on the soft of her lotion skin,

noticed by her lovers in the morning

and mistaken for their animal passion

as she adjusts her comforter, he waits as a static hum

sub-audible, the dogs are howling general alarm

mistaken for the moon

when she’s f*****g around on her phone

curled alone in her warmth, the snug of pajamas

he oozes, so patient, bloating her unaware

waiting for her to be saturated

so he can move on, the window is open

he waits until she thinks she can never be dry,

until she’s crying out for his cold and fill

but his moment has come, the next awaits

he can smell it in the western wind

cotton fields and the musk of woman

his blood is always on the rise

Wooow. This is so dark and I love it. I love how you portrayed this. I got sucked into reading this and by the time I was done..I didn’t even realize I wrapped up in it I was. Very, very well written and I love the detail. The contrast this has..is unexplainable to me. But I love it.

This reminds me of Leda and the Swan by Yeats in a certain sense.

Seriously love this.
