Raggy

Raggy

A Poem by JR

I am a specimen of my species and I know it

when younger I would bring the storm,

four legs, thunder clicks across the kitchen tile

I know what is mine

everything is mine

I mark the world to prove it, I swing my heavy meat

thrust my chest and hold myself as high as I can

if I’m afraid I attack, low, my enemy is my badger

I only fear what is not mine

everything is not mine

I have teeth but they have yellowed and dulled

my claws chipped and overgrown

so now I seek the sun, I crave my sleep,

there is much gray in my beard

I cannot call the lightening as in youth

but I can lead what is mine

everything is mine

I rest easy because I am a good boy

a very good boy
