Grape Hunters

Grape Hunters

A Poem by JR

I know where the grape hunters hide

I have seen the heavy men, ring bangers

weighed their women with my eyes

the heft of their thick thighs

lodestone of our vine, desire

I have shared water with them

and listened to their histories

watched the casual way

they could make gold of their world;

they collect in bunches, like grapes

slick and full, fresh with their juice

they sweeten with age, ever ripen

I know where the grape hunters hide, yes

but I won't show you

and I cannot hide with them
