Deception

Deception

A Poem by jphonor

They found each other

Between the brown paper bags

And greasy chicken bones

They saw what they were missing

Her with all her lackeys

And bristling with frustration

Him with an air of abusing some substance

And reeking of last night’s beer

It was touch and go

More touch than go

Then he was gone like all the rest

Nothing but words on a dimly lit screen

Blurry images that boxed up flesh and fantasy

As if, they were pieces of candy

She thought she saw a heart

Within his battered chest

Great taste in music

And two deep pools of blue

She would swim in

If given the chance

Then….silence

Until once again

The distance between them fell away

And the wondering curiosity returned

All foaming at the mouth

And rearing its ugly head

Demanding full attention

And taking all sense

She was adamant to be strong

So sure of herself… doubt

But let go any way

Against all better judgment

She slipped on his quicksilver tongue

Fell face first in the trap

Saw the glint in his eye

And heard his laugh

As he turned and walked away
