Wild GeeseA Poem by butterflyInspired by one of my favorite poets, Mary OliverIn the golden afternoon, I met a friend She is a wonderful poet. She interested me in devotions paged by white spine Worry ceases now in surprise. As the fact comes to light I find I too am a bride. Married to amazement As a bridegroom, I take the world in to my arms. This became a reality by the sea Now savored in the honeymoon of cream topped coffee of lucky charms. Still I thirst As I stumbled upon the uses of sorrow A first in the world of a new tomorrow More coffee was drank Leading me to understand A box full of darkness can be a gift With one pull of pretty ribbon everything gets a lift In a land of blue horses and dog songs We swam upstream and righted all my wrongs We learned we need beauty It makes us ache to be worthy Where soft mornings greet us hello And tell us its a serious thing to be alive By this fresh morning, in this broken world with my white dog Kiddo Where wild geese roam Reminding us we do not have to be good or walk on our knees For a hundred miles repenting without hope Its ok to be a soft animal with love for spending We are like the geese Wild and free High in the clean blue air Heading home in a world rarely fair Yet no matter how frightening The world offers itself to our imagination Emerging my eyes with colors and brightness With eternal fascination We can be free Let it all go We need to stay home There is a an enemy that is so close yet we can't see We are not without hope Our world not permanently bleak Just in the family of things Untied of all the strings Like flying wild geese To the place the poets transports through air I find once again that voice in me No matter how lonely We can share the joys This feeling of life The high of being free to myself Declare good health Worth more than richest wealth employs I fly In the sky so high With restored wings Breathing and seeing Without knowing it Oh Mary thanks for transporting me dear poet When I was at my death I was revived by fresh poetic breath Now when I walk I see truth surrounding me Like wild geese
